A quaint little park right off I77 in the Lancaster area, Andrew Jackson State Park is a perfect for history buffs! While there are many different activites like hiking, fishing and camping the main attraction to this park is that it boasts museums and interactive exhibits detailing Andrew Jackson's life in rural South Carolina.

We vistited the park after picking up my husband from the Charlotte airport and it was super easy to get to right from I77. Overall, this park was a 6/10 though I'm sure if my family was more into history it would have scored much higher.

The lake is a pretty decent sized lake and they had a well maintained trail with a boardwalk that looped around it. The boardwalk trail was just the right distance for our family clocking in at just over a mile and it provided serene views of the lake and woods. The only downside to this park is that you can hear the interstate noise throughout the trail and

campground. On a nice fall or spring day it would be the perfect place to escape the city and rent a boat for the day, especially if you're in the Charlotte/Rock Hill area.

While we were unable to get much of the history activities in because of our short detour, we did get to see the stunning statue sculpted by Anna Hyatt Huntingtion (former owner of Huntington Beach and Atalaya). If you are a fan of her work from Brookgreen Gardens or Atalaya, this is a must see! I'm always amazed at how sculpters like Anna can take raw materials and turn them into something magical like a horse.

The campground at this park was rather small, but looked well maintained and easy for smaller campers to get in and out of. There were several waterfront sites and paved sites as well so not too bad if you have a camper but I dont know that I would car camp at this park. We had just started our camping with toddlers and babies journey so I was always scoping out the best places to go and have a family adventure! This one was a perfect day trip and if I were to plan another visit, it would be during one of the living history programs that the park offers. Have you visited this park yet? What did you like and dislike about it? Let me know in the comments!
